Victoria Buns

Cooking time—20–30 min.


  • 10 oz. plain flour
  • ¼ teasp. salt
  • 3–4 oz. sugar
  • 2 small teasp. ground cinnamon
  • teasp. grated nutmeg
  • 1 level teasp. bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 teasp. golden syrup
  • 2 teasp. treacle
  • 4 oz. butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • enough warm milk to make a pouring consistency


  • Blanched almonds


Grease queen cake or deep patty tins and place half a blanched almond in the bottom of each. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl, heat the fat, syrup and treacle and add to dry ingredients with the beaten eggs. Add enough warm milk to make a pouring consistency. Half fill the prepared tins and bake in a moderate oven (350° F., Gas 4).
