Ingredients: 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract; 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped (or ⅔ cup semisweet chocolate morsels); 1 teaspoon light corn syrup; ½ teaspoon baking soda Pinch of salt; 1 tablespoon brandy or bourbon; 1 cup coarse-broken walnuts; ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly; 2 tablespoons Instant coffee powder, preferably Instant espresso, Nescafe Brava, or other full-flavored coffee; 1 tablespoon strong brewed coffee, preferably hot; 2 teaspoons hot water; 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour; 1 egg; ½ teaspoon Instant coffee powder; 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter; ⅔ cup light brown sugar; ¼ teaspoon baking powder

Method

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter and flour an 8-inch square baking pan; set aside.
In an electric mixer, whisk the egg and brown sugar at medium speed until
