Bring out the soup bowls and get ready for compliments

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 to 3½ lb.) chicken, cut in pieces
  • ½ lb. ham, cut in ½″ cubes

Method

  • Cook chicken pieces and ham in salad oil in large Dutch oven until browned.
  • Add remaining ingredients, except rice. Simmer until tender, about 45 minutes.
  • To serve, place spoonfuls of cooked rice in soup bowls or plates. Ladle gumbo over rice.
