  • About

  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup butter
  • cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsulphured molasses
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

    1. Preheat oven to moderate (350°F.).

    2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

    3. Cream the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Add the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Beat batter for thirty seconds.

    4. Pour half of the batter into a bowl. Stir in the molasses and spices. Pour the light and dark batters alternately into a lightly floured well-greased loaf pan (13 × 9 × 2 inches). Bake for forty-five minutes, or until done. Cool. Frost, if desired.
