Cover the cake in marzipan and icing and allow to dry overnight. Then take a cutter of your choice - a large star or tree is very effective - and use it to cut through the icing layer. Remove the cut-out icing. Brush the exposed marzipan with a little melted apricot jam and fill the shape with tiny dragees.
