Broilers are also sold cut into parts but, although convenient, this is a more expensive way of buying chicken. It is not difficult to cut up your own chicken at home and need only take a few minutes. Chicken parts are available in a wide variety of packs, from just breasts, drumsticks or thighs to mixed packs. Pieces of chicken are suitable for grilling, frying and barbecuing – methods that are not suitable for the whole bird because the outside would be overdone, not to say burned, before the meat in the center has cooked. These methods are also very suitable for cooking parts that have been marinated, thus adding a range of interesting flavors to the chicken.
