Nigella seeds, also called black onion seed, black caraway, black cumin, black sesame, fennel flower and kalonji (in Hindi), are tiny, tear-shaped seeds with angular sides. They have a distinct taste and aroma that is faintly bitter and often compared to oregano and anise, but their flavor is truly one of a kind.
