Cooking Times for Birds 10 to 14 Pounds

- For the first five pounds, bake 20 minutes per pound
- For the sixth to the tenth pound, bake only 10 minutes per pound
- For any additional pound over 10, bake only 6 minutes per pound
BIRDS OVER 14 POUNDS
- For the first five pounds, bake 15 minutes per pound
- For the sixth to the tenth pound, bake only 12 minutes per pound
- For the eleventh to the fifteenth pound, bake only 9 minutes per pound
- For the fifteenth to the twentieth pound, bake only 6 minutes per pound.
The reason for decreasing the length of the baking time as the baking progresses is that the larger a bird is, the faster it will bake proportionally. A large mass of whatever heat-conductive material always absorbs heat proportionally faster than a smaller one, so that large birds will cook proportionally faster than smaller ones.
