Growing A bush which grows best in dryish half-shady conditions. Bay trees are difficult to get started; they are best propagated by layering. Plants do not like frost, but young plants in pots can be kept in a greenhouse in winter.

Main Uses In soups, stews, fish dishes, egg custards, milk puddings.
