For a three-looped knot, make a single loop.

Bring end 2 back over the original loop to make a pretzellike shape.

Take end 2 and weave it under end 1, then over, under and over, and finally under and out of the pretzel.

Pull the knot snug; tie ends 1 and 2 together in back.

For all of the ties, begin practice with 10–15 inches of twine, the longer lengths for thicker ropes. Once you’ve achieved the look you want, tie several, and trim them if necessary. Untie and measure to establish more accurate lengths for your final efforts.
