Very little is known about the author, just the bare bones of her biography. As far as we know, she left: no diaries or correspondence. Molokhovets, née Burman, was born in 1831 in Archangel into a military family. She attended the school run by the Imperial Educational Society for Noble Girls.20 Her husband was an architect who worked for the Kursk provincial government; he died sometime before 1907. Their surname is unusual and, according to Molokhovets, was limited to members of the immediate family, all of whom were descended from a single source.
