We are never far from some good fishing in Harome, as the rivers Rye and Riccal flow very near the village, towards Nunnington and Ness. Take a walk down past The Pheasant, and follow the rise over the old iron bridge, past Sim Barker’s, and further on, past the old railway station, and there you’ll find the meandering river, running swiftly, like a babbling brook, but with a deceptively strong current in certain parts. It’s as much a spot for picnicking families in summer as for eager fishermen, but it’s also popular with cormorants and herons. The re-stocking of the river works well in replenishing the stomachs of greedy Mr Heron and his mates!
