You could be happily vegetarian and following a balanced diet, yet still be eating unhealthily – simply because you are consuming too many over-processed, refined foods. Ours is a busy, pressurized society, one placing a high premium on convenience and speed in all fields of everyday life, and most of all in how we eat and prepare our food. Packaged foods, take-aways and TV dinners are our answer. Yet in creating these convenience foods, we have often sadly ignored that we are losing valuable nutrients in the process. White flour, for instance, has lost up to eighty per cent of its vitamins and minerals in refining. Worse still, we are adding chemicals without regard to their combined effects on our health.
