  • About

The Australian Missionary Cookery Book, 1915 (State Library of NSW).

When the First World War broke out in August 1914, prize-winning Alstonville show cook, Annie King, was hard at work compiling a cookbook to raise funds for mission work.

Born in the inner-Sydney suburb of Redfern in 1858, Annie trained as a teacher and served at schools in Maitland and Albury before marrying in her mid-thirties. She and her husband, John, later settled down on a dairy farm in the Richmond River area of northern New South Wales, where they raised four sons.
