Culinary educator

Dame Elizabeth “Liz” Young leads continuing education classes called Cooking in the Classroom to highlight science, ecology and nutrition principles through the Brooklyn Public Library for its librarians and the NYC Department of Education schoolteachers. She loves to pass on culinary skills, paint in watercolor and is learning about no-dig farming. She was the first director of the Recreational Division at ICE cooking school in NYC, owner-operator of Culinary and City walking tour company and managing editor of a peer-reviewed nutrition journal called Topics in Clinical Nutrition. Liz was honored with the NYU Outstanding Service Award, earned a master’s degree in food studies and food management and graduated from culinary school on a full scholarship. Dame Liz served in her early career as general manager of restaurants in Philadelphia and New York City until 9/11 and worked both back- and front-of-house positions in restaurants and catering firms for seventeen years.
