Gunawan was born and raised in Indonesia and has always wanted to turn his passion for art into a career. After graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Pâtisserie at Le Cordon Bleu Adelaide, he has gone on to participate in many competitions in Australia and abroad, including securing first place in the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge in South Australia. He was awarded People’s Choice for Best Tart in Savour 2016 and his ground-breaking Terrarium Tart was featured on the cover of Savour’s Pâtissier of the Year 2016 recipe book. Gunawan has worked with many celebrity chefs and when he is not judging competitions, he runs masterclasses where he shares his skills. Gunawan creates unique and highly innovative desserts for restaurants and is now known as The Award-winning Pastry Chef on a Mission.
