Chef Masaki Sasaki is one of the pioneering figures of the modern Bay Area omakase scene, credited with helping introduce rigorous Edomae-style sushi to San Francisco long before it became fashionable. Over a career spanning decades, he worked at influential sushi counters including Sebo and Michelin-starred Maruya, and was also a founding chef at Omakase in San Francisco. In 2016, he opened the intimate 12-seat Sasaki restaurant in the Mission District, earning a devoted following for its minimalist, highly traditional approach and meticulous attention to technique. Now in his late sixties, Sasaki has described his newest venture, Sushi Adachi, as likely his final restaurant. Opened in 2026 in Mountain View, the restaurant continues his focus on classical Edomae sushi and omakase, with seafood sourced directly from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market and a deliberately restrained, old-school style.
