Peter Fang

Peter Fang is a Chinese-American chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author best known as the founder of the iconic San Francisco restaurant House of Nanking. Born in Shanghai and later emigrating to the United States, he opened House of Nanking in 1988 and built it into one of San Francisco's most celebrated Chinese restaurants, known for its inventive blend of Shanghainese, Cantonese, and Chinese-American influences. Together with his daughter, chef Kathy Fang, he co-owns Fang Restaurant and starred in the Food Network series Chef Dynasty: House of Fang. In 2025, the pair published House of Nanking: Family Recipes from San Francisco's Favorite Chinese Restaurant, sharing recipes and stories from more than three decades of family cooking.
