Susan Lifrieri-Lowry is currently a lecturer at New York City College of Technology, CUNY (City Tech). She teaches Baking and Pastry Arts I and II, Deluxe Desserts, International Desserts, Specialty Cakes, Artisanal Breads, Introduction to Food and Beverage Management, Nutrition for Food-Service Professionals and Hospitality Workforce Management in a Global Marketplace. She was pastry decorator at the Helmsley Palace Hotel before her first pastry chef position at Aurora, a three-star nouvelle cuisine restaurant run by Joe Baum. She moved on to La Metairie, a small French bistro, and then to The Manhattan Ocean Club, an American seafood restaurant owned by Alan Stillman. Susan started teaching pastry at the French Culinary Institute (FCI) in 1995. In 1999, she was promoted to chef coordinator in the culinary department, working her way up to director of faculty administration. She also holds Le Diplôme du Boulanger/The Art of Artisan Bread Baking from the French Culinary Institute. Susan is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and has a bachelor of professional studies degree from Empire State College. Susan is the first female executive with the Société Culinaire Philanthropique. She is a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier New York. In her spare time, she tends to her organic garden and spends her summers making jam and pickles.
