Mireille Johnston (1935-2000) was an author, scholar, and television figure widely known for her cookbooks on French regional cuisines. Born in Nice and educated at French and American universities, Johnston wrote the seminal The Cuisine of the Sun (1976), The Cuisine of the Rose (1982), and The French Family Feast (1988). She appeared in A Cook’s Tour of France, a BBC TV cookery series, in the 1990s, and wrote two volumes based on the series. She died in Paris in 2000.
