Susan Musgrave is a poet, novelist, children’s writer, essayist, and columnist. Her home is near Masset on Haida Gwaii. Susan has published over 30 books. She has been nominated and won awards for writing in six different categories: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, food writing, and for her work as an editor. Her most recent poetry collection, Exculpatory Lilies, has been shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize, and she is the 30th recipient of the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award, 2023. Her best-selling book, a food memoir or “a love story with recipes,” is A Taste of Haida Gwaii: Food Gathering and Feasting at the Edge of the World. This won the Bill Duthie Bookseller’s Choice Award (B.C. Book Awards, 2016) and the 2016 Taste Canada Awards. She was married for 32 years to Stephen Reid, a member of The Stopwatch Gang who retired from bank robbing to write novels and essays — Jackrabbit Parole and A Crowbar in the Buddhist Garden. Stephen died in 2018. Sony has purchased Susan’s Life Rights for a limited series based on Stephen’s life. She teaches poetry at the University of British Columbia’s Optional Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program.
