  • 6 large potatoes
  • butter or margarine or bacon fat

Method

Scrub the potatoes, rinse and dry them. Brush with melted butter, or margarine, or bacon fat or rub with a greasy butter paper. Prick with a fork. Bake on the shelves of a fairly hot oven (375 F., Gas 5) until soft—about 1½ hr., turning them whilst they are cooking. Cut a cross in the top of each, insert a pat of butter or margarine.
