  • 6 large tomatoes
  • a little butter or margarine
  • salt and pepper

Method

Wash the tomatoes and cut them in halves. Put them in a greased, deep fireproof dish. Season and sprinkle each with a pinch of sugar and a pinch of chopped tarragon, if used. Put a tiny piece of butter on each or cover with a well-greased paper. Bake in a moderate oven (350° F., Gas 4) until soft—about 20 min.
