Grease a pudding basin. Clean the fruit. Mix together the sifted flour, salt, baking-powder, sugar, breadcrumbs and suet. Stir in the dried fruit. Add the well-beaten egg and some of the milk. Stir, adding more milk as required, until the mixture drops easily from the spoon. Turn the mixture into the basin; cover with greased paper, and steam for 2–2½ hr. When ready, turn out of the basin and dredge well with sugar.
