Blueberry Grunt


  • 2 cups blueberries
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablesp. lemon juice
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 4 teasp. baking-powder
  • ½ teasp. salt
  • 2 tablesp. sugar
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup milk (approx.)


Put the blueberries, ½ cup of sugar, lemon juice and 1 cup of water into a pan and bring to boil, stirring continuously. Boil for 3 min. Sift together the flour, baking-powder and salt, add the 2 tablesp. sugar. Cut in the fat and mix with milk to make a soft dough. Drop the dough over the boiling fruit, cover and simmer for 10 min. without raising the lid.
