Italians would eat this dish as a first course, but you could also serve it as a side dish to roast meat or a stew. Romans say this recipe was originally made with potatoes and flour rather than semolina, which is how normal gnocchi are made. They also claim that it was a man with poor teeth that developed the recipe. My teeth are OK, but I still like it!
