To plain-boil this in the oven, which can be done when no fire is required at home, put six pounds of salt beef into a six-quart pan, with four whole parsnips, two large carrots, and six dumplings; send them to the oven for two hours; dish up the meat with the vegetables, and dumplings round. The liquor can be saved and made into soup; the vegetables can be cut in two.
