This is a Turkish Sepheradic recipe, which my grandmother and my mother used to make, and I learnt to make it at the age of 12. It’s a simple and very comforting dessert; my mother made it at events, while I made it at pyjama parties with my friends. It can also be served as a sweet snack between meals and is great with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  • 100 g/ oz/scant cup dark chocolate (preferably 60.70% cocoa solids), broken into pieces

Method

  1. Place the chocolate, butter or margarine, cocoa powder and sugar in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water (ensuring the bowl doesn’t touch the water underneath) and leave until melted and combined, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat, then leave to cool to room temperature.
