The name translates as “sauce from the bees.” The marinade evolved from a traditional conserve, like mostarda di frutta, from Piemonte in the north of Italy. Chopped walnuts usually are included in the mixture. I thought it would make a great marinade and sauce for grilled chicken, minus walnuts (as they would burn on the grill).
