Once you’ve made puff pastry dough, you can throw together these straws in just a few minutes. If you have puff pastry trimmings, this is a perfect use for them. If you’re working in a hot kitchen, make the cheese straws before you preheat the oven and keep them in the freezer until you are ready to bake them.

Ingredients

  • ounces firm, hard cheese such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or aged Gouda

Method

Grate the cheese—you should end up with ½ cup when gently pressed—and combine it with the paprika.
