Ingredients: 2.5 ml/½ tsp salt; 22 ml/1½ tbsp skimmed milk powder (non fat dry milk); 40 g/1½ oz/3 tbsp butter; 5 ml/1 tsp salt; 210 ml/7½ fl oz/scant 1 cup water; 15 ml/1 tbsp golden (light corn) syrup; 22 ml/1½ tbsp malt extract; 375 g/13 oz/3¼ cups unbleached white bread flour; 100 g/3½ oz/generous ½ cup sultanas; 320 ml/11 fl oz/generous 1⅓ cups water; 30 ml/2 tbsp golden syrup; 45 ml/3 tbsp malt extract; 2.5 ml/½ tsp easy bake (rapid-rise) dried yeast; 5 ml/1 tsp easy bake dried yeast; 50 g/2 oz/¼ cup butter; 22 ml/1½ tbsp golden syrup; 75 g/3 oz/½ cup sultanas (golden raisins); 280 ml/10 fl oz/1¼ cups water; 500 g/1 lb 2 oz/4½ cups unbleached white bread flour; 600 g/1 lb 5 oz/5¼ cups unbleached white bread flour; 125 g/4½ oz/generous ⅔ cup sultanas; 7.5 ml/1½ tsp easy bake dried yeast; 30 ml/2 tbsp malt extract; 30 ml/2 tbsp skimmed milk powder

A malt and sultana loaf makes the perfect breakfast or tea-time treat. Serve it sliced and generously spread with butter.

Method

Pour the water, golden syrup and malt extract into the bread machine pan. If the instructions for your machine specify that the yeast is to be placed in the pan first, reverse the order in which you add the liquid and dry ingredients.
Sprinkle over the flour so that it covers the liquid. Add the milk powder. Add the salt and butter in separate corners
