My mom used to make fried mantou, or Chinese steamed buns, as an after-school snack. They were like little fried pillows that you could dip into condensed milk for a surprisingly delicious bite. Unlike most fried treats, these bao are steamed before frying, creating a truly unique texture. The interior is bouncy and soft while the exterior has a toothsome chew.
