This recipe holds a lot of importance for me, as I can recall my mother frying up batches of jian dui for Chinese New Year, and this version of them has become one of my signature desserts. Technically speaking, it is a mochi—and a bomboloncino too, if we are relying on the definition that translates to golf ball–sized donut. But truly, this is my mother’s recipe for jian dui.
