Healthy and hearty, oatmeal is a satisfying breakfast option that will start your day off right. Steel-cut oats take a little longer to cook but you are rewarded with their wonderful texture. Dress oatmeal up any way you like, but we particularly love this topping of caramelized pecans and sauteed pears with honey and cinnamon.
In a heavy saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil over high heat. Stir in the oats and return to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring frequently to avoid scorching, until the oats are done to your preferred texture, 25–35 minutes.
