I love mackerel. I spent many a summer evening with my siblings fishing for mackerel off the nearby pier, sometimes catching three or four at a time. Since I was the youngest, I wasn’t allowed to handle the fishing rod, but instead was the one to ‘deal’ with the mackerel once it had been lifted out of the sea. We would then walk around the village trying to sell our haul to the locals.
