Ingredients: 15 ml/1 tbsp milk; coloured sugar sprinkles; 10 mini candles, cut to 1cm/½in, and candle holders; 10 wooden skewers; 45–60 ml/3–4 tbsp water; a few drops of purple food colouring gel; 90 g/3½ oz/¾ cup icing (confectioners’) sugar, sifted; 30 g/1¼ oz/2½ tbsp butter, softened; 50 g/2 oz/½ cup self-raising (self-rising) flour; 5 ml/1 tsp vanilla extract; 15 ml/1 tbsp sour cream; 200 g/7 oz/1¾ cups fondant icing (confectioners’) sugar, sifted; 50 g/2 oz/¼ cup butter, softened; 50 g/2 oz/¼ cup caster (superfine) sugar; 1 egg; 10 mini marshmallows

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Grease a 10-cup straight-sided mini muffin tin (pan). For the cakes, cream the butter and caster sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg. Sift in the flour and fold in with the vanilla extract and sour cream. Divide the mixture
