Quinoa, which is not a grain but the small seed of a plant native to the Andes, is now also grown at high altitudes in the United States and so is becoming widely available here. Check the bulk bins at natural-foods stores or larger grocery stores. It is considered a “complete” protein, meaning that it contains all eight essential amino acids, and it is very high in fiber.
