This is my mom’s much improved version of an old Southern Living recipe. You can add 2 tablespoons salt, if you’d like, but I find it’s more versatile without it—for example, I like to marinate mushrooms in a mixture of Chinese light (not “lite”) soy sauce, lime juice, olive oil, and this spice mix before pan-searing or grilling them.
