I have vivid memories mostly of trying to stay out of my parents’ kitchen on canning days. Not one but two huge canning pots would be full and boiling morning to night. They’d set up a propane burner out in the herb garden next to the kitchen door so they could have several pots of sauce simmering at once. There was one legendary weekend we all still remember.
