This is a basic, no-frills tomato ketchup, sweet and tangy but a bit less of either than store-bought—and significantly more at home toward the bottom of the food pyramid. If you’re like me, you’ll want to futz around and add things like smoked paprika, a couple of canned chipotle chiles, a tablespoon or two of chopped fresh ginger, or a fresh chile. You could also replace a few of the tomatoes with nectarines or peaches and reduce the amount of sugar you add.
