Although the British asparagus season starts around April, Italian asparagus appears in March and the French a couple of weeks later. The season is short, but by the time the continental asparagus is finishing the British is in full swing so it is lovely to enjoy the vegetable from early spring until the beginning of summer. Serving with buttery breadcrumbs respects the flavour of the vegetable, while the addition of sharp Parmesan finishes the dish perfectly.
