In Chinese cuisine, we often blend sweet and savory flavors together. I learned a long time ago in pastry school to always add a pinch of salt into all my desserts. I know it sounds weird, but the savoriness brings out the sweetness. And I think the same goes for why Chinese people love sweet and savory recipes like orange chicken and sweet and sour pork.
