These little pies, known in Scotland as ‘tuppenny struggles’, are excellent travelling fare, which, with the deterioration of railway food, has become a great necessity. Despite Prince Charles efforts to re-establish mutton, the only place you can really buy it is at a Halal butcher’s (but at least it’s not too hard to find one of those). Like shepherd’s pie, this dish is made with cooked mutton so is handy when you have had your Sunday joint.
