These thin ginger biscuits were served to members of the Scottish parliament before its dissolution 300 years ago. I rather hope that Alex Salmond might restore the tradition!

Ingredients

  • 100 g black treacle
  • 100 g butter
  • 225 g

Method

Preheat the oven to 160°C/325°F/gas mark 3.

Melt the treacle and butter over a gentle heat. Fold in the flour and ginger then add the sugar. Mix to a stiff dough and roll out very thinly. Set on greased baking trays, mark into squares and
