After my rhapsodizing over the sweet scone’s simplicity, it may seem odd to include a couple of savoury recipes. But these are different articles, designed to hold another place in the scheme of things, to play a supporting role. The cheese scone can be eaten on its own, but reaches maturity as the topping for a stew or as part of a breakfast or supper dish with scrambled eggs and good bacon.
