Charring lettuce in a hot pan until it’s infused with anchovies, garlic, and olive oil not only gives it beautiful color and texture, but it also tastes pretty great. Toasted garlic and breadcrumbs for crunch also don’t hurt. There is no egg component in this version, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you could fry or poach one and serve it on top. But in my opinion simplicity is key.
