Squash the clove of garlic without cutting it and heat in the oil without browning. Remove garlic. Dilute tomato paste with the warm water and add to the oil. Remove cores from tomatoes and chop up roughly. Add to tomato paste. Stir in the seasonings, sugar and basil. Bring sauce to the boil and simmer gently, uncovered, for 20-30 minut
