Pizza is essentially a bread base baked with some savoury topping, generally containing tomatoes and cheese although many variations are possible - see suggestions below. This basic pizza dough serves 2 people as a main course or 4 people as a starter, or perhaps more as a picnic or cocktail snack.

Ingredients

  • 150 ml/¼ pint lukewarm milk or 150 ml/¼

Method

Warm the liquid and mix a tablespoon or so of it with the yeast and the sugar. Cream this mixture with a teaspoon and then add it to the rest of the liquid. Sift the flour with the salt into a large warm bowl and make a hollow in the centre. Pour the yeasty liquid into this hollow and, stirring with a knife, mix well.
