Mint, Vinegar + Flixweed Shrub

The English term “shrub” has been used since the fifteenth century to refer to mixed drinks usually made with a vinegar syrup and fruit juice. It comes from the Persian word “sharbat” which itself comes from the Arabic “sharab” meaning “drink.”

Flixweed/Descurainia sophia is a member of the mustard family and the seeds are used in this drink. Served at street stalls in Kerman and Yazd, it is considered a wonderful thirst quencher. It is also thought to be cooling/sardi
