  • About

This hot sauce is very popular in Yemen. It is served with rice in the south and with bread in the north. It can be eaten with cheese and lavash bread, especially for breakfast. In the old times, zahawiq was ground with stone grinders, which were found in every Yemeni house — a practice some people still prefer today.

Ingredients

  • 1 large tomato (200 grams), peeled and halved
  • 8 spicy green chile peppers (such as jalapeño

Method

Blend everything until mostly smooth. Taste and add salt if needed. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
